Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) sold 12,115 units in September – a small dip of five per cent compared to 12,807 units in the same month last year. In terms of individual models, Toyota was able to sell 5,858 units of the Innova MUV and 1,301 units of the Fortuner respectively, which is significantly more in their segments against 4,756 units and 1, 078 units respectively, in the corresponding period last year.
The Japanese automaker’s offering in the mass market – the Etios and the Liva were the main reason for the decline in numbers with sales falling to 4,440 units from 5,926 units. However, Toyota exported 2176 units of the Etios petrol to South Africa in September to compensate for the dip in domestic sales.
Commenting on Toyota’s performance, Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director, marketing, said “We have seen a drop in sales last month. The market has been quite sluggish and the market sentiments are very low in the passenger car segment. We hope to see it picking up in the festive season.”
