Mini will be launching its first-ever five-door variant of the Cooper later this year. Ahead of its launch it has been spied sans any camouflage at what appears to be an airport. The five-door variant will be slotted between the Cooper S three-door and the Countryman.
Ever since BMW took control of the Mini brand, it has evolved. Amidst lot of criticism about the brand losing its essence; the Bavarian carmaker has transformed the character of the original Mini. It is difficult to say cars like these would be made for building sales figures. However to position it as a global brand and to make a decent return on investment, could not have been achieved with a single product portfolio.
At first glance, the model spotted looks like the sportier Cooper S model. Distinctly the front doors on the five-door version look smaller than its three-door counterpart and the rear one looks even smaller. The Miniwill be launched in mid 2014 in the European markets and India might get it in 2015.
In India, this particular five-door model will appeal to customers aspiring to own a Mini and to people who don’t want the bigger Countryman and liked the Cooper but wanted two additional doors.
