Henrik Fisker has been hinting at the arrival of an all-new electric car under his new company – Fisker Inc., since October last year. Christened as the EMotion, the new all-electric sedan promises to have a range of 645km and will boast of autonomous credentials as well.
In the new teaser images, the EMotion appears production ready. The new fascia has dropped the flamboyant creases, bulges and futuristic design elements that were seen on the concept car showcased earlier. Now, it has sleek headlamps with integrated indicators, which Fisker describes as “eyes like a panther”. At the front, there is an integrated LIDAR in the black centre bright piece, asserts the designer-turned-carmaker.
In the other images, we can see that the EMotion retains its curvaceous body with large wheels, no overhangs, a swooping roofline and stout proportions. What remains to be seen is whether the EMotion will rock the crazy ‘butterfly doors’ in the production spec as was seen on the concept vehicle. The extensive use of carbon-fibre and aluminium in the structure is compliant with crash tests, states the carmaker, while lightweight alloy wheels have a reduced rotational mass by 40 per cent, thus improving performance altogether.
The powertrain will be an advanced high-energy density, patent-pending battery pack and cooling system. The pure electric sedan will come with an ‘UltraCharger’ technology which can charge the vehicle for a range of 150km in just nine minutes. Although no power figures have been disclosed yet, it is being said that the EV will hit a top speed of 250kmph. Autonomous technology for this vehicle was under development until now, but the carmaker asserts that the LiDar housed up front and two cameras concealed in the side mirrors will be part of the package.
Production of the Emotion isn’t going to start any sooner, however, the pre-orders will officially begin on June 30th on the company’s website. The car, itself,, is supposed to be revealed in August this year. The EMotion is expected to be manufactured at the VLF Automotive facility, while the servicing would be carried out by The Hybrid Shop (THS). Fisker also promises a ‘white glove concierge service’ to the owners for routine maintenance and servicing.
The California-based carmaker hopes that the EMotion will be able to pave way for a more consumer-friendly, mass-produced and affordable electric car. Fisker claims that this mass-produced car would be more affordable than the Chevy Bolt and Tesla’s Model 3. Fisker hopes to give stiff competition to te Tesla Model S with the EMotion EV sedan.
