The first set of spy pictures of a camouflaged BMW 2-Series has reached the interweb. It will join the 4-Series in 2013 as ‘first for the company’ in terms of changes to the naming system. Basically, BMW will take the coupe and the convertible versions of the 1-Series and change their names. It is following the same policy with the 3-Series, where a coupe version and a convertible version of the 3 will become the 4-Series.
Since the car is covered in full camouflage, it is hard to glean any specific details. However, we can see that the car shares many visual cues with its smaller digit source of origin. It is likely that the changes will be limited to the front and rear of the car along with a few performance features and interior modifications to separate the lot.
Since we believe that changes apart from the cosmetic ones will be minimal, it is safe to assume that the mills that will be offered with the car will be same ones that powered the 1-Series coupe and convertible. Power will be transmitted to the rear wheels (the kings of RWD) via six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.
While the 2-Series is slated for a 2014 launch, the Bavaria based automaker is expected to unveil the 4-Series at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January.
