Bookings for the Fiat Urban Cross have opened and the amount has been set in the range of Rs 20,000- Rs 25,000 depending on the variant. The hatchback crossover is available in one petrol and two diesel engined variants and across five colour options.
What is the Urban Cross you ask? Here is a bit of refresher. Showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, this is the latest beefy iteration of the Punto Evo hatchback. It carries all the design hallmarks of the former but gets styling cues in the form of taller wheels, body kit, chrome grille and wedge shaped headlights infused with LED DRLs. Inside, the top-spec variant gets a cabin similar to that of Punto Evo but now with the addition of a touchscreen infotainment system, leather seats and steering mounted audio controls.
It will be offered with the 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol engine and the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel. The former produces 125bhp/210Nm while the latter will be in the 90bhp/209Nm state of tune. Both vehicles will only be offered with a five-speed manual. The diesel will be offered in the Active and Dynamic variants while the petrol will be offered in a single top-of-the-line Emotion variant.
We believe that Fiat will price the Urban Cross in the range of Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh putting it in competition with the hatchback-based crossovers as well as compact SUVs.
