Fiat India has started promoting their Urban Cross on social media platforms, hinting they might launch it soon for the Indian market. The car was recently unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The Fiat Urban Cross is powered by the same mill from the Abarth Punto hot-hatch. This 1.4-litre T-jet petrol unit produces 140bhp of power at 5,500 rpm and 210Nm of torque between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm. The transmission option also remains the same as the engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
The Urban Cross is based on the Fiat Avventura and gets cosmetic changes with the addition of new features in the cabin. The external appearance has changed thanks to the new diamond front grille, new bumper, restyled fog lamp enclosure, larger roof rails and redesigned tail lamps. The new pattern for the alloy wheels and body cladding add to the sporty look of the car.
The cabin also gets dual tone interior equipped with new features like the touch screen audio with Bluetooth and an auxiliary unit along with navigation. There are high terrain gauges like a compass and an inclinometer similar to the Avventura.
Fiat's promotional activities for the Urban Cross do not have a mention of the 'Avventura', suggesting this Urban Cross model could only be offered as a separate variant and not a derivative of the Avventura. When launched, it will compete with the Hyundai i20 Active, Volkswagen Cross Polo and the Toyota Etios Cross in the compact crossover segment in our country.
