Fiat had announced earlier this year that they would be bringing four products for the Indian market in 2014 of which, one of the cars is a facelifted version of the Fiat Punto hatchback. The car has been spotted testing in and around Pune in camouflage and is expected to be launched by the end of the year but now there is a surprise in the form of a spy shot of the facia from a dealer presentation.
The facelifted Fiat Punto will get a similar design to that of the Avventua crossover, a step that was pretty obvious thanks to the plethora of spy shots and logical connection between the Avventura and the Punto hatchback. It reveals that everything will be the same, except for the bumper which is far less aggressive than the Avventura.
As we had reported earlier, the facelifted Punto will get exactly the same interiors and feature list as the Linea sedan. The engines are expected to be the 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 67bhp and 96Nm of torque while the diesel is the 1.3-litre MJD unit in two states of tune- 76bhp/193Nm and 90bhp/209Nm. Both engines have been mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The report from Indianautosblog suggests that this facelifted model will be reserved specifically for the Indian market and to wherever the Ranjangaon plant exports cars to. We expect that Fiat will minimally revise the prices of the facelifted car and launch it by the end of the year. It competes in the B-segment with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20, VW Polo, Nissan Micra and the Tata Indica Vista.
