The upcoming Fiat Punto Evo has been spotted at a dealer stockyard in Mysore. The car is expected to hit the market in a few days and is more of a model year upgrade with cosmetic changes outside and some drastic improvements inside.
The car gets more than the model year upgrades that the Punto got until now. The exteriors get minor changes like the new front fascia which includes new headlamps, bumpers and bonnet. Fiat has retained the nice looking rear of the old car with few changes like the new clear lens tail lamps and minor tweaks to the bumper. It also gets a new set of alloy wheels that look marvelous. Inside, the Punto Evo gets a segment first, rear AC vents and a dashboard layout similar to the 2014 Linea.
The Punto EVO will use the same mechanicals as the old car and will get a choice of three engines. Two petrols – 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre and the famous 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine in two states of tune – 74bhp and 89bhp. A five-speed manual transmission will be standard across the range.
The car competes with the likes of Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai i20 and the Maruti Swift. Things won’t be easy for the Fiat Punto EVO as the competition is also getting ready to launch the updated versions of their vehicles. VW will be launching the 2014 Polo this month, Hyundai is bringing the new i20, Maruti also rumoured to introduce the Swift facelift. However, the big news is that Honda is entering this segment again with the Jazz and this time with a diesel engine. We can expect fireworks in this segment in the coming days.
