Fiat has silently revealed that the company has made large profits due the engine exports made to China and the high demand for its diesel engine locally as well as in the European markets. As reports suggest, Fiat has earned a profit of Rs 269 crore since 2012 for the six months ending March 2013.
Though not through car sales but especially for their engines, we can see the automaker has quietly made these profits while other carmakers are still making constant efforts to make a place in the car market.
Currently Fiat provides engines to most of the car manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Chevrolet and Tata in India. The carmaker only sells the Grande Punto and the Linea in the country. It is not surprising that the high profits the company has earned are because of their engines and not their cars. However, Fiat is making its efforts to have a major hold in the Indian car market by planning to launch more products from their Ranjangaon plant, which will be used for manufacturing as well as assembling.
