Italian car maker Fiat is upbeat about the Indian car market and may be launching four new models by the year end. The company had a decent outing at the Auto Expo 2014, wherein they unveiled a handful of models which garnered decent response from the crowds.
"Fiat has an exciting line up of products for this year. We have already launched our brand New Linea and will soon be coming out with New Punto Avventura, a contemporary utility vehicle (CUV) which will be making its global debut in India. We are also launching the Abarth brand with Abarth 500," Nagesh Basavanhalli, President and Managing Director, FIAT Chrysler Automobiles India.
"In 2013 calendar year, 2.47 million passenger cars were sold across all segments in the country and fiat's share was below 1%," he said. During April-December 2013, the Fiat sales was 43 per cent, while from April last year- to March year, Fiat grew by over 80 per cent.
Fiat, yesterday, started its first of a kind K2K Passion Drive in Kochi, Kerala. Along with this, a two-day service camp will also be organised in the city. The company claimsthatmore exciting offers would be madeavailable to customers as they move across cities.
The company has opened 108 dealerships across the nation in a span of 11 months and wants to achieve the figure of 150 by year end. This is part of their customer engagement strategy.
The Italian car maker is slowly gaining ground in India, but, they need a broader product portfolio to make it really count in the market. The Punto and Linea are their only mainstream models, a small car under the Punto and the addition of an SUV is the need of the hour.
