Fiat India will launch the Classic variant of its Linea sedan at a function in Delhi tomorrow. The Linea Classic is basically expected to be a stripped down version of the standard Linea and will slot in below the base variant of the standard car. Reports also suggest that the car will get a lower spec engine in a bid to keep costs down.
The arrival of the Linea Classic is most likely a bid by the Italian automaker to expand its presence in the C-Segment where the Linea is placed. Speaking to Indianautosblog, Nagesh Basvanhalli , president Fiat India, said that the Linea was in the C-high segment and that since there was a lot scope for the car in the C-lower segment, the company should have a presence there too, thus the Linea Classic.
It is likely that the Linea Classic will continue once Fiat launches the facelifted Linea which is expected to be later this year. The company plans to launch nine products over the next three years of which the Linea Classic is the first one.
We expect that Fiat will price the Linea Classic at least Rs 60, 000 lesser than the standard petrol and diesel base variants and that means it will compete with vehicles like the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Nissan Sunny and the Renault Scala. It should ideally score well over most of its rivals due to larger size and better design.
