Fiat India has launched the Linea Classic sedan for Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It is a cut price variant of the standard car and is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The company aims to target the lower end of the C-Segment with the Linea Classic and is the first of the nine products that Fiat aims to launch over the next three years.
The Linea Classic on the outside loses out on alloy wheels, fog lamps, electronically controlled mirrors as well as chrome door handles and chrome inserts on the front grille. It does however get a Classic badge at the back. Inside, the Linea Classic features hydraulic power steering, all black steering like the Punto, manual AC controls and power windows only for the front windows. In a bid to keep costs down, Fiat has also removed the Blue & Me system as well as the steering mounted audio controls.
It is being offered in two variants; the Linea Classic and the Linea Classic+. The former has both petrol and diesel engines while the Classic+ variant only gets a diesel engine option. The petrol engine is the 1.4-litre engine that produces 90.2PS and 115Nm of torque while the oil burner is the 1.3-litre Multijet engine sans the turbo which means that it now produces 75PS. Both engines have been mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Fiat Linea Classic in its price range competes with the Honda Amaze, Chevrolet Sail, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, and Mahindra Verito. However, it should have an upper hand over its rivals thanks to its spacious interiors and quite decent features.
