According to latest media reports, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is planning to discontinue diesel engines from its entire passenger vehicle line-up. In fact, the Financial Times has reported that the move could be implemented by as early as 2022.
It seems the fall in demand and escalating costs for the diesel powertrain has prompted the auto giant to eradicate diesel motors in the near future. Under a four-year plan to be unveiled on June 1, Fiat Chrysler will announce it plans to phase out the popular fuel type from its cars.
Diesel fuel has been in the news ever since Volkswagen’s humongous emission scandal. More recently, Toyota made it official that the brand isn’t keen on rolling out all-new models with diesel powertrain. What’s more, even Porsche has announced that it is killing off diesel engines for the Macan and the Panamera, following the drop in demand for diesel cars in Europe.
