Fiat has launched the Avventura crossover starting at a price tag of Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the 1.4-litre petrol Active variant. The Avventura will be available in three variants – Active, Dynamic and Emotion and in six colour options.
The Avventura, based on the Punto Evo gets a tailgate mounted spare tyre, body cladding and an SUV standard high ground clearance of 205mm which Fiat claims is first in the segment. It gets 16-inch alloy wheels as standard across all variants as well as aluminium roof rails which add to the beefy image of the vehicle.
The interior of the Avventura features a design very similar to that of the Punto Evo with many of the components being carried over from the latter. However, the major difference is that the dashboard is dual-tone. It also now includes some specific touches like a compass and tilt meter to lend the feel of a purpose built off-roader. On the safety front The Ranjangaon-based manufacturer has added a dual-stage airbag for the driver while on the practicality front, the rear seats are split folding with a 60:40 ratio.
The Avventura gets a 1.4-litre FIRE engine producing 89bhp and 115Nm of torque. The diesel engine is the familiar 1.3-litre Multijet mill churning out 92bhp and 209Nm of torque. These engines are mated to a five-speed manual transmission sending power to the front wheels.
The Avventura competes with the Toyota Etios Cross and the Volkswagen Cross Polo in India and the recently spied Hyundai Elite i20-based crossover which is expected to launch next year. The Italian automaker wants to sell it as a lifestyle product and doesn’t expect it to do numbers. It is purpose made and although these are early days to predict if it finds favour over its rivals, but we expect it to do decently.
