The Fiat 500X crossover has been unveiled for the American market at the 2014 LA Auto Show. The Italian cousin of the jeep Renegade made its global debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. It shares all its underpinnings with the American crossover but looks completely different thanks to the Turin- based automaker’s world famous styling.
The Fiat 500X share much of its external design with the Fiat 500L but has the obvious crossover(ish) changes to the overall package. It’s the same story on the inside too with much of the design coming from the existing Fiat 500 setup.
Under the hood, the Fiat 500X will be offered with the option of 1.4-litre four-pot motor or a 2.4-litre four pot engine. The former produces 160bhp and is offered with a six-speed manual while the latter produces 180bhp and is mated to a nine-speed AT. Power goes to the front wheels in standard form while AWD is an optional extra.
The American market will get the Fiat 500X in four variants - Pop, Easy lounge and the top-spec Premium variant. Also in offer will be the Trekking and Trekking Plus variants which are expected to add a bit of ruggedness to the overall package.
The 500X and Renegade will be produced along-side each other at the Italian automaker’s plant in Melfi Italy.
