Following on from its world debut at the Paris Motor Show, the Fiat 500X has been launched in the UK with prices starting at £14,595 (Rs 14.11 lakh). The crossover will be available for bookings from next month, says Fiat.
According to the Italian automaker, the 500X is a crossover not only in terms of vehicle segments, but also in terms of its potential customers. With two very different versions on offer, the 500X promises to suit all tastes: the one available in Pop, Pop Star and Lounge trim levels is designed for young and enthusiastic audience, while the more rugged version is suited for the adventurous kind. The latter will be available in Cross and Cross Plus specifications.
Like the rest of the 500 small car range, Fiat will be offering a range of customisable options for the 500X. The crossover, in fact, will be available with a choice of 12 different body colours and eight different designs for the 16, 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Powering the 500X will be a broad range of powertrain options. Front-wheel drive, petrol-powered models will either be equipped with an 110hp, 1.6-litre engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 140hp, 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed twin-clutch automatic gearbox. Meanwhile, the all-wheel drive petrol model will feature a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
The front-wheel drive diesel range consists of the 1.3-litre and the 1.6-litre MultiJet turbo diesel engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2-litre all-wheel drive model, on the other hand, will get a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic gearbox option.
The new 500X will be available for bookings in the UK starting next month. Despite the rising demand for crossovers, it is highly unlikely for the vehicle to be launched in the Indian market. Fiat India will continue to represent itself in the crossover segment with the recently launched Avventura for now.
