Fiat 500L last received an update in 2014 and has been soldiering on ever since. Comprising of three vehicles, the 500 L line-up catered to ones who found the standard 500 too small but the car was no less than an eye sore in appearance. Fiat has started working on updating the 500 L and we have shots of the standard 500 L undergoing cold weather testing.
Under the heavy camouflage, there are some styling tweaks like a larger grille, tweaked headlights and a redesigned tail lights. The overall shape and stance of the 500 L are retained, so the five-seater will continue with its quirky and odd silhouette. On the inside, a bigger infotainment system with an updated interface is expected. There will also be an increase in quality with soft touch plastics to make it feel like a premium vehicle over the standard 500.
The Italian carmaker won’t lend the facelifted 500 L any major powertrain changes. So the range of small petrol and diesel mills will continue to power the updated 500 L. Depending on the market, the 500 L will be available with 0.9-litre or 1.4-litre turbocharged gasoline engines as well as 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel mills. The other two members of the 500 L family – the Trekking and Living, will promptly follow suit with the update.
