- Top speed is 320kmph, 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds
- Pays tribute to the city of Rome from the 1950s and ‘60s
Ferrari has revealed a new front-engine coupe called the Roma at a special event held in the city of – you guessed it – Rome, Italy’s capital. The newest Prancing horse is termed as a 2+ coupe paying homage to the life in the city of Rome back in the 1950s and ‘60s. The retro styling is in line with a concept called ‘la Dolce Vita’ – Italian for ‘the sweet life’.
Based on the Portofino, the Roma is powered by the award-winning 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 which produces 602bhp and 760Nm. The motor is coupled to a new eight-speed DCT gearbox which debuted in the SF90 Stradale. With a dry weight of just 1472 kilograms, the Roma is capable of hitting 0-100kmph in just 3.4 seconds, 200kmph is dispatched in 9.3 seconds and the top speed is claimed to be 320kmph.
Earlier rumoured to be a coupe version of the Portofino, the Roma takes many of its design cues from classic Ferraris like the 250 GT, the Berlinetta Lusso or even the Daytona. The sleek headlamps are very SF90 like, but the meshed grille is unique and is retro-futuristic to look at. The long nose and stout rear with flared wheel arches make it look handsome.
But the party piece is the quad-taillight setup at the back which is unlike anything seen on a Prancing Horse before. The cabin has a separate cockpit for driver and passenger divided by a large and high centre console. Apart from the infotainment screen wedged on the floating console, there’s a separate screen for the passenger as well.
Ferrari’s claim of Rome’s characterisation of “carefree, pleasurable way of life” in the Roma, we reckon the new coupe will be more of a practical everyday usable car rather than a tourer or a track car. Prices or availability aren’t revealed yet, but if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.
