Ferrari has just taken the hyper-car game up a few notches with the FXX K. Earlier known as the LaFerrari XX, the FXX K is based on the LaFerrari and will grace the world’s tracks from next year onwards. The K in its moniker is a reference to the “KERS” kinetic energy recovery system it adopts in maximising its track performance.
Freed by homologation and racing regulations, the FXX K will never be used in competition. It is, in fact, developed to be completely uncompromising. Ferrari says it will be offered to the exclusive group of clients with whom the brand will roll out a test programme over the coming two years.
The car’s enormous potential is attested to by a V12 engine paired with an electric motor. The total power output is rated at 1050hp and torque is in excess of 900Nm. According to the brand, the 6,262cc V12 features new camshafts and a modified valve train with mechanical rather than hydraulic tappets. The intake manifolds have been redesigned and given a special type of polishing treatment. The exhaust system has been modified as its silencers have been eliminated.
Thanks to the revised bodywork enhancing the aerodynamic efficiency, the FXX K possesses a 50 per cent improvement in downforce in the low drag configuration and a 30 per cent improvement in the more aggressive downforce configuration.
Ferrari has not yet released details on the pricing or the availability of the FXX K yet. Although it is safe to say that it is bound to set new benchmarks in terms of on-track performance, very much like the standard LaFerrari.
