Sources suggest that Ferrari has finally embraced the unavoidable and is currently believed to be developing an SUV. This is contrary to the company’s earlier statements about not building an SUV, as it did not go well with their supercar building stature.
However, Ferrari has had to change their thought process since rivals like Lamborghini and Aston Martin are already developing their hot SUVs. While Lamborghini is known to be currently developing the Urus SUV, Aston Martin is working on a DBX crossover. In a bid to sustain their business model and to offer a viable competitor to the market, Ferrari is now moving ahead with this ‘secret’ project (known internally as F16X) and is reportedly in full swing at the company’s headquarters in Maranello, Italy.
This new SUV is expected to debut in the year 2021, and should be available with either a V8 or a hybrid powertrain, to begin with. Furthermore, it is believed that Ferrari’s new SUV will feature suicide rear doors to eliminate the B-pillars. There is also some talk about the new SUV being underpinned by the same platform as Ferrari’s next-gen GTC4 Lusso, to share the light-weight aluminium architecture and all-wheel drive platform.
