Ferrari has said that it will debut the highly awaited F150 hypercar next month and this was confirmed by Ferrari SpA chairman Luca di Montezemlo recently. He has also hinted that only 500 units of the car will be built. This is expected to give the car exclusivity much like the Enzo of which only 400 units will be produced.
The F150 has been dubbed the spiritual successor to Enzo hypercar and has been snapped testing across Europe over the last six months. Two pictures revealing the front-end and rear-end of the F150 ads well as a presentation on how the F150 ups the ante over the Enzo have also been doing the rounds on the internet.
We already know that the new hypercar is likely to get a 6.3-litre V12 which produces 740bhp along with a 100bhp boost from the HY-KERS unit. The driver's seat will be made-to-measure to fit the owner, like F1 car seats are made. It will then be fixed to a position in the cabin, with the steering wheel and pedals moving back and forth to adjust to different drivers.
The slide very plainly titled, ‘F150 performance Vs Enzo’ and released in December shows us first and foremost that both the cars weigh exactly the same and this is it seems is mostly due to the F150 having a hybrid (KERS) unit, which due to the current limitations of its design still weighs quite a bit.
In terms of Co2 emissions, the F150 has dropped a massive 300 gCO2/km over the Enzo (from 540 to less than 240), something that we can attribute to tightening emission norms as well as improvement in technology.
The F150 is also two seconds faster than the Enzo when it comes to going from 0-200kmph and this automatically has given it a faster time (five seconds!) around Ferrari’s Fiorano circuit.
The car is likely to cost in excess of 800, 000 GBP putting it in the region of the Pagani Huayra and the upcoming Porsche 918.
Luca di Montezemolo also revealed that there would be more variants of the California and that Ferrari had no plans to make sedan or a crossover.
