For the second time in less than 10 years, Fernando Alonso has managed to play the leading role in the annual production of Formula 1's worst kept secrets. He previosuly played this role as the protagnist in 2010 when he switched over from Renault to Ferrari. He has now switched from the latter, after five tough seasons, and will drive for McLaren where he will partner 2009 champion Jenson Button.
The duo of Alonso and Button will be team mates again after almost 12 years. They were last paired together in 2002 at Renault where Jenson Button was in the midst of a career low while Fernando Alonso was being groomed from greatness that lay ahead of him two seasons later.
Now fast forwarding to the 2015 season, the duo are both former champions with tons of experience and what is expected to be a competitive engine thanks to Honda's previous F1 experience and its many years of familiarity with turbocharged V6 engines.
McLaren Honda is a name that will be returning to F1 after nearly 25 years and we expect that there will be some fireworks from both drivers as this will be a new challenge for them or atleast one of them as Button has previously worked with Honda from 2003-2009.
This is expected to give him an advantage but with Alonso being the only other man in the modern history of the sport, apart from Michael Schumacher, with the talent to produce consistent lap times on every lap, we expect a good fight.
However, we must also remember that Alonso was previously at McLaren in 2007, then a top playing team which had just come out of a two-year slump. It was expected that the dream team of Alonso and then new prodigy Hamilton would set the tarmac alight. Things unfolded over the course of the season and ultimately lead to the Alonso going back to Renault. The Spaniard has admitted that he regretted some of his actions in 2007 and now hopes to bring fame and glory to the British racing team.
