The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado may not be in the news very often but when it does, the news is quite big and the big one this time is that the current generation car will get a facelift later this year. Rumours have been persistent about the update and now pictures of the updated car have surfaced on the interweb which highlights the updates that the 2018 Prado will get.
At the outset, the Prado will get Toyota’s latest grille and head lamps. The front bumper too gets upgraded and sports a design similar to the one we have seen on the latest generation Fortuner being sold in India. The new face lends some subtlety to the overall appearance. The side profile remains the same as before while the tail lamp assembly has got some new chrome inserts to brighten the overall appearance.
The dashboard now moves to black and silver setup as compared to the current model’s brown and black setup. The design of the centre console has changed and now gets a vertical setup with a bigger touchscreen and a new steering as well.
There are four engine options for the Prado. On the diesel front there is the 2.8-litre unit and 3.0-litre unit in two states of tune while the petrol range comprises 2.7-litre four-pot and a 3.5-litre V6. These are expected to continue unchanged for the facelift.
The Prado is a CBU in India and this update will make its way here shortly after the car is launched which is expected to be towards September. However, things are expected to be a bit different this time around as Toyota now offers the 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel in India with the Fortuner and the Crysta. This means we could expect two things- the Prado is likely to become cheaper and will be offered with a petrol engine this time around.
