The Maruti Suzuki Swift is currently India's bestselling B+ segment hatchback. Making sure that the title remains with them itself Maruti is expected to launch a facelifted version of the Swift in 2014. Also the next-generation (all-new) Swift slated to arrive here in 2017 will represent the third generation model of the car.
At the beginning of this month an updated version of the Swift was spotted testing in the country. The report suggested that the car is pretty much similar to the updated Swift that was launched internationally earlier this year.
On the exterior we can see the 2014 Swift Facelift sporting new L-shaped LEDs upfront and silver detailing on the lower front bumper. Apart from that, Suzuki is also offering a high mounted LED stoplight. Suzuki has also put out a new Boost Blue Metallic colour and for non-alloy wheel versions, the wheel covers are different.
This facelift gets redesigned seat fabrics with blue and grey-lined accents, Auto Up function for the driver side power window, Power folding wing mires and auto headlamps. The dashboard remains unchanged and so do the other trims on the car's interiors.
On the engines and transmissions front, Suzuki has retained the 1.2- litre K-Series petrol engine and the 1.3-Litre Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine. Top end models of the Euro-spec 2014 Swift also feature cruise control, a start-stop button and heated seats so we can expect the India-spec version to get the same with a few tweaks to suit the demands here.
The current generation Swift sold in India has been in the market since 2011, without any changes. This hatchback segment has seen a lot of competition from Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i10, i20, Ford Figo, Toyota Etios Liva, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto, Nissan Micra to name a few.
Though a time frame has not been revealed as yet, we expect the 2014 Indian Auto Expo to be a great opportunity for Maruti Suzuki Swift to get a mid-career refresh.
