Fiat recently announced that it would bring the Jeep brand to India in the form of the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee. This got the Indian motoring enthusiasts excited as both the iconic American machines are actually very capable vehicles and are expected to go well in this SUV obsessed country. Now with just a few days to go for the Detroit Auto Show, we have another interesting update on Jeep with the spy shots of the facelifted Grand Cherokee.
The pictures and information supplied by two different users of the site Allpar.com, tells us that the SUV will get minor cosmetic tweaks and mechanical changes as well. The front end has been revised in the form of new headlights and a revision to the air dam. The rear end gets a new tail lamp console and redesigned boot lid, along with new exhaust tips. The interiors have also been mildly refreshed and will now include the Chrysler UConnect infotainment system.
The engine range comprising three petrol and two diesel engines will remain the same. The base petrol is a 3.6-litre V6 while the top-end mill is a 6.4-litre HEMI SRT V8 (now with cylinder deactivation technology). Both the diesel (sourced from Italy based VM Motori) will be3.0-litre V6s producing 190bhp and 250bhp respectively. Power will be transmitted to the wheels across all engines via a new eight-speed gearbox.
Fiat had announced that it will introduce the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler to the Indian market in the third quarter of 2013 and it is likely that this will updated Jeep will be made available here.
