A facelifted version of the Fiat 500 has been spotted testing in Europe. This appears to be the first major update for the popular hatchback since its launch in 2007 and it will mostly be cosmetic in nature, both externally and internally.
The pictures reveal that the updated 500 will get a facia in the form of a new bumper, headlights and most likely the fog lamps too. The minimal signature Fiat 500 grille is expected to continue in a bid to retain the image of the vehicle. The rear bumper too is under camouflage which means that it too will undergo some changes as a part of the restyle job.
Fiat is also expected to updates the interior in the form of more features, infotainment system and most likely a few more upholstery options. However, the overall design is expected to continue from the current car.
On the engine front, the facelifted model will continue with the 1.0-litre, 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre Multiair petrol engine while the diesel is the 1.3-litre Mutijet diesel mill. Gearbox options include a five-speed manual as well a five-speed AT with paddle shifters.
The Fiat 500 was sold in India till mid 2012 but discontinued due to low numbers. It is possible that Fiat, with such large expansion plans in mind, may just bring the 500 back with this model. The existence of this test vehicle also means that the Abarth 500 may just undergo a refresh too.
