General Motors India will launch the refreshed Chevrolet Sail sedan and the U-VA hatchback for the Indian market tomorrow. This will be the first time since 2013 that the Sail sedan will receive a minor facelift that might be carried over to the U-VA hatchback as well.
The facelifted versions of both the Sail sedan and U-VA hatchback will get some cosmetic changes as well as some upgrades to the interior. There will be no changes to the headlights, tail lamps or bumpers. However, the fog lamp housings will be embellished with chrome while a chrome strip will be added to the rear. Though there is no confirmation about these changes from the manufacturer, it is pretty sure that the facelifted car will not be similar to the one launched in China recently.
Coming to the changes made in the cabin, this is the area where the company has worked a bit on the updates. With the use of high quality materials, the updated car will help get an upper hand over the current model. The dashboard is finished in dual tone black and beige, while the steering wheel also comes in black colour. The other changes include chrome surrounds to the air-conditioning vents and the gear-lever. The top-end will continue to get ABS and airbags as a standard option while a 2-DIN music system has been added.
We do not expect the manufacturer to bring in any mechanical changes to the car. The engine options on the current models are expected to be continued. This means the petrol variant will be powered by a 1.2-litre engine that produces 86bhp of power and 113Nm of torque, while the diesel variant will be powered by the 1.3-litre mill that churns out 78bhp of power and 205Nm of torque. The five-speed manual transmission will also be carried over.
With the booming sales of the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and the Tata Zest, GM India seems to have felt the pinch of doing something to up their sales. These facelifted models might help the manufacturer to capitalise on the demand of cars at the start of this festive season.
