Ford India has recorded an output of 29,795 vehicles in the month of December for sale in the domestic market as well as for exports. While the overall numbers show a 27 per cent growth, Ford’s woes in the domestic market seem to continue.
After the not so successful journey of the Figo and the Aspire, Ford had all its money riding on the new Ecosport. The Ecosport started really well after its November launch, becoming the second-highest sold sub-four metre SUV in India to take the total to over 7,500 sales.
The domestic sales have come down to just over 5,000 units in December, down by over 35 per cent, and it casts a shadow over Ford’s plans for 2018. We do not have the exact numbers as of now, but with the consistency in the performance of the Figo siblings and the Endeavour, it seems that the Ecosport hasn’t been able to capitalise on the blistering start. But then Ford is working towards it and we can expect the Figo Cross to be launched in a month’s time.
