Fiat India’s rapid expansion plans over the course of the last one-and-a-half years looks to be working for it, as it is expected to see a 50 per cent growth in market share. This was shared by Nagesh Basavanahalli, president of Fiat India during the launch of the Avventura in Kolkata recently.
He said that they currently had a market share of 0.6 per cent and that this would grow by 50 per cent. However, he did not specify a time period for when they expected this significant growth. He also said that Fiat currently had 125 dealers across the country and that this would increase to 150 by the end of the year. In addition to the established dealerships Fiat was also providing mobile service/sales vehicles to make its presence felt in rural areas.
Fiat has been on a roll in 2013 and 2014 after it launched a slew of new services, models like the Avventura and more importantly announced massive expansion plans which included the likes of Jeep, Chrysler and Mopar.
While the arrival of the American brands has been put on hold, it has gone ahead with other plans and this finally appears to be working in their favour. Fiat and Tata had split their non-production operations in 2012 but still produce cars together at the joint facility in Ranjangaon. This opened the way for Fiat to expand its operations in India.
