-Wider and longer than the standard Duster
-Battery pack is visible on the sides
-Studded tyres
A test vehicle for an electric version of the Renault/Dacia Duster was spotted testing in Sweden. It’s one of the first glimpses we got of a budget SUV test car from the Dacia/Renault family and it signals the direction the company is taking in the future.
On the face of it, there are some very obvious cues like the battery pack, wider body and bigger wheels to indicate where Renault/Dacia is going. However, our spy sources have given us an interesting perspective with regard to this car. They say that this is the prototype for a new 4WD electric race car that the company is working on with regard to the famous French ice racing series- Andros Trophy. It had announced an EV cup last year (set to begin in 2020) and this car looks like the prototype that will spawn the race car that will participate in the ice race. Noticeable racing bits include the hood and middle section with detachable clips, the studded tyres and an OMP racing seat for the driver. Even the rear hatch door has clips for quick removal.
For what it is worth, the EV tech being tested on this car will move to a production-spec model shortly after the race car is revealed to the public. With the future going electric, some of this technology is sure to be introduced in the India-spec Renault models of the future.
