The new upcoming Mahindra Scorpio has been spotted testing time again and again. The company has been testing the camouflaged vehicle in various parts of the country. This time we got up and close with the test vehicles and managed to get some clear pictures of the SUV.
We saw a few test vehicles of the 2014 variant of the Mahindra Scorpio in a disguised avatar. The cars didn’t reveal much of the specifications; however, we can gauge some details from these clear images. The heavily camouflaged test vehicle boast of changes to the exterior as well as interior. The manufacturer might not just make cosmetic changes to the car, but also make revisions to the mechanical bits.
The facelifted Scorpio might retain the same architecture but will get a new grille and headlamps. The design of the bumpers might be changed. With larger OVRMs, the car has wheel arches different from the outgoing vehicle. The alloy wheels also get a new design which look better than the ones the top-end variant of the present Scorpio has. At the back of the car, tail lamps might be changed to LED ones, nevertheless continuing with the Christmas tree arrangement.
We couldn’t manage to take pictures of the cabin, but we expect the interiors to be slightly updated in terms of both- layout and design. Mahindra seems to have worked majorly on improving the quality of upholstery in the upcoming car. The steering wheel is carried over from the XUV 500, while it sports a new dashboard and a stylish instrument cluster with silver accents.
What surprised us is that the test vehicles were doing high speeds very comfortably and the engine noise was minimal. This revamped Scorpio might be powered by the same engine that the outgoing version has, i.e., the 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine that churns out 120bhp of power. The company surely has refined the engine which enables the vehicle to sprint so seamlessly. There are speculations that suggest the 140bhp motor from the XUV 500 might be equipped with this variant of the Scorpio.
We believe that Mahindra has come up with an interesting product which is not just a facelifted version of the Scorpio. With so many frequent sightings of these test mules, we think that the launch of the car might be just around the corner.
