Fiat is looking to bridge the gap between the existing 500X and Alfa Romeo’s future SUV with an all-new model. The car in question is a 4x4 model that was recently caught on test in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
According to our sources, this new model will be based on the 500X’s platform and will share the basic mechanical components with the latter. Engine wise, Fiat is expected to bring in a new range of four-cylinder engines with this car. The engine range, in all probability, could start off with a 2.0-litre or 2.4-litre unit paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The new SUV will be offered with front-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel drive as an option.
The new SUV is expected to be made in Italy sometime during 2016. When launched, it will take on other compact SUVs like Hyundai Tucson, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.
