The European market has gotten its first glimpse of the Skoda Rapid, and it showcases the new design direction for the Czech company. The European Rapid isn’t the same as the Indian-market Rapid, which is based on the Volkswagen Vento – itself a Polo with a boot. The European Rapid is positioned the same as the Indian one, however, with the Fabia at one end and the Octavia/Laura at the other.
The segment the Rapid comes under accounts for around 36 per cent of the world’s car market. Of this, about 42 per cent are sedans – meaning that this Rapid will help rack up the numbers for Skoda. It is 4.48m long and 1.7m wide. Five petrol and two diesel engines will be on offer at the time of launch, and the car will be on display at the Paris Motor Show in September. Deliveries will begin late this year.
