Following its launch in the Indian market, the Hyundai i20 Active is headed for its European debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The rugged looking hatchback was recently spotted in Spain, undergoing testing and contrary to earlier reports indicating that it will be called the i20 Cross, it’s now being said that the car will be labelled i20 Active when it arrives in the UK in 2016.
Hyundai will be competing with cars like the Volkswagen Cross Polo, with the i20 Active expected to feature a higher ground clearance and rugged looking exterior bits. In addition to the India-spec version, this Euro-spec i20 Cross is expected to feature a more luxurious cabin with an all-new infotainment system.
The i20 Cross will be powered by the same engine options as the standard i20. This will include the high-performance 186bhp turbocharged engine. Sadly, the India-spec i20 Active won’t get the same firepower and will continue to be powered by the regular 1.2 petrol and 1.4 litre diesel engine options.
Full details on this new model will be revealed closer to the official unveiling in September this year.
