Hyundai plans its arrival to the rapidly crowding crossover segment with its own version of a compact UV. The new model will join the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Chevrolet Trax and many others in the quickly growing entry-level crossover segment. Dubbed to have borrowed design cues from its sibling, the Kia Prono, the new model is expected to make global debut before end of this year.
The Hyundai mini SUV bears unmistakable resemblance to the Prono with its tapering roofline and the window silhouette bear, while staying loyal to the Hyundai roots through its chrome slated horizontal grill. Hyundai has for long had strong association with its sister concern Kia, as they have shared platforms among numerous cars, the most noted being the Hyundai i10 and the Kia Picanto. Despite sharing platforms, the brands have always managed to keep their models distinct through subtle yet evident design lines and the same is expected to trickle down to the SUV as well.
Detailed information on the engine specs and powertrains are not available yet, but the vehicle is expected to house Hyundai’s new range of compact petrol and diesel engines, and the ultra frugal turbocharged 1.0-liter petrol mill that Hyundai showcased last year.
Hyundai has already announced that it intends to launch four new products in India in the coming two years, and considering the growth in the crossover segment, this model will certainly rank high on the priority list.
