BMW M2 might now be launched in the international markets by early 2016. Contrary to early reports which said that that the car might be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015, rumours now speak of an early-2016 launch for the M2.
There is still a slight mystery that surrounds the specifications, as the car might use a reworked version of the N55 unit. However, taking rumours into account, the turbocharged 3.0-litre, straight-six engine, to be plonked into the M2 could make about 374bhp. Company officials had earlier indicated that it will be only available with a manual gearbox, but we expect it to also get an automatic gearbox.
The standard 2 Series is a hoot when it comes to handling and the fun quotient might just go up with the M division’s version of it. This is in many ways considered to be the spiritual successor to the now defunct M3 coupe.
BMW recently launched the M3 Sedan and the M4 Coupe in India, while we are not sure if the 2 Series might make it to India. But, there is a strong possibility that BMW might introduce the M2 to strengthen its performance range in India. The M2 might be the sole product to be launched under Rs 1 crore in India.
