Riding the diesel demand wave, Honda has managed to catapult itself to third place among the manufacturers in India. A report from the Financial Express says that on the back of the sales of the Amaze and the City, Honda has managed to sell 1.33 lakh units in the financial year 2013-2014 as compared to 71,182 units in the financial year 2012-2013.
It launched the Amaze compact sedan on April 11, 2013 and it turned out to be quite successful for the Japanese automaker averaging between 5,000-8,000 units a month. Its other diesel success is the City sedan which was recently updated and had its global unveiling in Delhi in January.
Its next two launches are expected to be the Mobilio MPV in the second quarter and then the Jazz premium hatchback which is expected to be launched in November. Both will be offered with petrol and diesel engines so that means the Japanese automaker will be further looking to cash in on the diesel wave.
The Mobilio and the Jazz will get the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit that produces 100bhp and 200Nm of torque. However, we expect that for the Mobilio the torque figure may get higher due to size of the MPV. The Japanese automaker also plans to expand its total outlets from the 117 currently to 230 by the end of the year by expanding to over 43 new cities.
