The next generation Toyota Innova may be offered in a diesel AT variant. If this setup does happen then it will be then same one speculated for a new version of the Fortuner which makes use of the Innova’s 2.5-litre diesel unit mated to a five-speed AT and it will have an output of around 142bhp.
We believe that the Innova diesel AT is unlikely to happened even if the same setup exists in the Fortuner, sometime in the future, simply due to lack of demand. Such a variant will also push the price of the vehicle significantly..
What we may get instead, is an AT petrol version that is currently sold in Indonesia and Thailand. Their versions make use of a 2.0-litre that produces 136bhp and 182Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed AT. It is likely to be offered in a single mid-level variant in a bid to keep the costs down.
The report also suggests the next generation vehicle will continue to make use of the ladder-frame chassis and that it will have a significant amount of new features in a bid to keep its place on top of the MPV food chain. The Innova went through a major facelift last year and is expected to have an all-new model in 2016.
