German car maker Audi is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that their latest product, the A3 sedan, gets the maximum attention. A source tells Autocar India that the internal demand for the sedan is quite high and that many dealers have requested Audi to double their allocation of cars.
The Indian market saw the car at the Auto Expo in February and from then on it has been garnering a lot of attention. Audi has gone ahead and even announced that the car will be assembled within the country at their Aurangabad Plant. It has even been spotted testing often in and around Mumbai.
The A3 sedan will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol will be the 1.8-litre TFSI unit developing 168bhp and 320Nm while the diesel will be the 2.0-litre TDI mill with an output of 141bhp and 320Nm. The A3 sedan will be a front-wheel-drive car and will be available with the seven-speed DSG gearbox.
The car is expected to be launched sometime around August and till then and even for quite some months after that there is no competition for the Audi A3 in the market. Mercedes-Benz’s A3-rivalling CLA sedan arrives only in 2015. It is but natural then that dealers across the country are anticipating a huge demand for the smallest luxury car.in India.
Earlier, Luca de Meo, in-charge of global sales and marketing had categorically said that for the first time, with the A3, they were going for a fully locally-assembled car as a first step to control costs and give a price proposition to their customers. It will be a price point which will steer clear of the prices of the A3 and the A4 and we expect them to sell it in the Rs 22 lakh- Rs 30 lakh range.
With price, features and time of release being in their favour, Audi is sure hoping for a successful product in the form of the A3.
