The Avanti, the car that has been designed and developed by DC Design in our country, was spied testing on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. DC unveiled the Avanti at the Auto Expo in February this year and it will be the first made-in-India supercar when the manufacturer launches it in our country.
The test vehicle was completely wrapped in cladding in a bid to hide the details. However, most of the details were made available at the biennial event a couple of months ago. We think the car might be undergoing some final tests and will be making some minor changes to the vehicle. Unlike other modified cars, the Avanti is an entirely new car made from scratch by DC, the famous automotive design house.
The DC Avanti is powered by an EcoBoost four-cylinder 2.0-litre DOHC engine sourced from Ford that churns out 245bhp of power and 366Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission and the motor features direct injection. The current mill is Euro 5 compliant which can be upgraded to the upcoming Euro 6 norms. This will facilitate the company to sell the car overseas as too.
The first appearance of the DC Avanti was at the 2012 Auto Expo. It is at the 2014 edition of the biennial event when DC announced that they will start producing the car at their manufacturing plant in Gujarat. Though the early models will be built at their workshop in Pune, the mass production cars will be rolled out of the company’s facility. The Avanti will create a category in itself as it will be the first supercar produced in our country by an Indian manufacturer. It might be priced at around Rs 25-30 lakh when it goes on sale in our country.
