The test mules of the DC Avanti have been making frequent appearances on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway and the numbers of pictures have increased. This time we have pictures of the interior as well.
The camouflaged test vehicles still retain the same components on the exterior as seen earlier. The headlamps, tail lamps are temporary ones to make the test cars road legal. The final production version of the Avanti is expected to get projector headlamps, DRLs and LED tail lamps. The company will retain the basic silhouette of the car while giving it a plush look.
The thin-framed doors open in the genuine fashion sideways unlike some supercars which have fancy doors that open upwards. The cabin is the bare basic one which houses all the temporary components, most of which are not expected to be carried over in the final car. The flat bottomed steering wheel would be good equipment for the car and the round shaped AC vents also look decent enough. The two-seater car should get the basic equipment list that any top-end version of any car gets. We expect ABS and airbags to be offered as a standard option.
The drivers of the test mules confirmed that the cars were under preliminary stages of testing and the company is still testing the engine. Under the hood of the Avanti lies the critically acclaimed Ford EcoBoost 2.0-litre DOHC mill that produces 245bhp of power and 366Nm of torque. The motor comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission with a nice and tall gearstick.
While there is surely some more time for the manufacturer to bring out the production ready Avanti for the Indian market, we can expect that the company will bring in a host of changes that will surprise one and all. We also hope that the car lives up to the high expectations that we have set from what will be India's first made-in-India supercar. Early 2015 is when we can expect the car to go on sale for a price of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.
