It was the previous edition of the Auto Expo where India’s renowned car design house – DC design, had revealed the Avanti. Designed and developed in-house, the Avanti straightaway shot to fame for being India’s first supercar.
Two years later, DC Design has come up with the production-spec version of the Avanti at the 2014 Auto Expo. Not looking far too different from the one showed in 2012, the Avanti borrows quite a few design traits found in some of the European supercars. However, it is not to say that DC design has put in very little imagination into the vehicle. The Avanti, in fact, looks quite distinctive albeit highly eccentric.
As for the power-train, the Avanti borrows Ford’s revolutionary 2-litre EcoBoost engine featuring direct injection. The four-cylinder DOHC motor is Euro 5 complaint and is capable of being further upgraded to the upcoming Euro 6 norms for targeting export market as well.
With the engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, the Avanti puts out 245bhp and 366Nm of torque, which may not sound much in supercar terms but it is still plenty fast for our roads.
The Avanti will hit the market later this year with prices starting at around Rs 25 lakh mark. The company has announced that it will soon start production of the model at its upcoming production facility in Gujarat.
