Datsun recently showcased the on-DO sedan in the Russian market with a possible launch happening in June. Its hatchback offering, the mi-DO is also expected to be launched in August. Now a Russian site is reporting that Datsun’s third product will be a crossover that will be based on the redi-GO concept that was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo.
The site claims that this information was confirmed by Jerome Him, head of Datsun Russia. The redi-GO concept was the main attraction at the Auto Expo as it was a global launch and India is one of the few markets that is being specifically targeted at. However, it’s quite surprising to see Russia getting precedence over India. Datsun is marketing the red-GO as a five-door hatchback that looks aggressive. The concept car didn’t look radical or have design cues from a space shuttle but we expect the car will look stunning if it does.
The redi-GO if priced under four -lakhs wearing a mini-crossover like styling might open floodgates for Datsun. The design theme emphasises that affordable cars needn’t be boring to look at and nor should one stick to a specific body design at a particular price point.
