News is just in on Datsun’s all-new hatchback for India. The brand, in fact, has announced that they will unveil their next offering on April 14. The vehicle is based on the Redi-Go and will compete in the hotly contested entry-level small care segment.
We got our first look of the Redi-Go at the 2014 Auto Expo and since then, Datsun has been hard at work readying it for the Indian market. This new model is essentially Datsun’s version of the Renault Kwid since it’s based on the same CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault hatchback.
Now although it shares its underpinnings with the Kwid, Datsun’s forthcoming model may not come with the same drivetrain. Going by the previous reports, Datsun would bring in a new petrol engine and not source the existing 800cc petrol engine. The latter produces 54bhp of power and 72Nm of torque and is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Datsun, as we know, hasn’t been doing well at all with the GO or the GO+. With this freshly designed hatchback, however, the brand is looking forward to much better times. When launched, the new hatchback will be positioned against the segment leading Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.
