Datusun has released sketches of the new car ahead of its world premiere in India on July 15. The sketch previews the new Datsun car that will be launched in India in 2014 from Renault-Nissan’s facility in Chennai. Datsun will operate as a low cost brand under Nissan and their new website is also live starting today.
The next generation Datsun cars will be sold in the developing countries like India, Indonesiam, South Africa and Russia. The Datsun products will be position below Nissan vehicles to compete in mass segments against volume churning models of Maruti and Hyundai. The new Datsun is expected to be based on the previous generation Micra powered by 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol mill with power ratings lower than that of the Micra. Datsun may also introduce a low spec diesel variant derived from the 1.5-litre K9K engine used by Renault-Nissan.
Datsun car unveiling scheduled for July 15 in New Delhi will also be the first concrete step for the Japanese brand – after Nissan announced its revival in 2012.
“Datsun will bring competitive products and services, modern and aspirational, while at the same time reassuring, providing superior value and specifically developed for the emerging and ambitious new Middle Class in high-growth markets. The Datsun cars will be locally developed with the support of Nissan Motor Company engineers and stylists and will be locally produced”, said Vincent Cobee, Head of Datsun.
