First-time carbuyers in India will now have more options to choose from with the Redigo launch in India tomorrow. The Datsun’s new entry-level car has been in the news for its new-age style and anticipated low ownership cost.
A recently leaked brochure for the new Datsun Redigo goes on to hint that the car might be offered in five trims - D, A, T, T(O) and S. The higher variants will get infotainment system, rear folding seats and a digital tachometer, while the top-end variant will get a driver side airbag. However, like the Kwid’s base variant which misses out on AC, the Redigo’s D variant will also not get an AC, while power steering will be offered from the T variant onwards. The interior is purely basic with fabric upholstery and single-tone. For personalisation options, Datsun might also offer accessory kits like Easy Kit-Sport, Easy Kit-Premium, Kool Kit, Urban Kit and Style Kit.
Under the hood, the Datsun Redigo will be powered by a 799cc three-cylinder petrol engine which generates 53bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission, the Redigo claims to deliver an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 25.17kmpl. In terms of dimensions, the hatchback measures 3,429mm in length, 1,560mm in width, 1,541mm high and has a wheelbase of about 2,348mm. The car offers 222litres of boot space and has an impressive ground clearance figure of 185mm.
The upcoming Datsun Redigo is expected to be priced between Rs 2.39 lakh – Rs 3.50 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top end variant. Post its launch, the Redigo is expected to emerge as a strong competitor against popular sellers like Maruti Alto 800, Renault’s Kwid and Hyundai’s Eon. Strategic pricing will help the company in creating a space for itself in a segment which was until now ruled by the likes of Alto 800, Eon and the Kwid.
