The recent sighting of the Redi-GO test mule taking rounds in Chennai hints that Datsun has started testing the production version of the crossover. The car is expected to make a debut at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The Redi-GO concept was first unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo as a design study. This camouflaged test mule hides most of the changes the manufacturer made to the production version. However, looking at the rear shot, it is clear that the carmaker has retained the design language from the concept car.
The compact crossover is based on the same CMF-A (Common Modular Family) platform as the GO hatchback and the GO+MPV. The concept car's design looked fantastic and the production version is expected to carry the same styling elements.
The Datsun Redi-GO might be powered by a three-cylinder mill churning out 75bhp of power and 105Nm of torque. This unit will be powered by a five-speed manual, while the AMT (automated-manual transmission) gearbox might be made available as well.
There are a lot of expectations from the Redi-GO, which should open up new avenues in the Indian automobile market with its futuristic design and latest technology. It will hopefully change the perception that entry-level cars generally look average or boring. Also, after the debacle of Datsun GO's safety ratings, the manufacturer confirmed that this product will be engineered keeping in mind India's safety benchmark. Stay tuned to know more about the car as we gather more details.
