We got our first look of the Redi-Go at the 2014 Auto Expo and since then, Datsun has been hard at work readying the Redi-Go for the Indian market. This new model is essentially Datsun’s version of the Renault Kwid since it’s based on the same CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault hatchback.
Although it shares its platform with the Kwid, the Redi-Go may not come with the same set of drivetrain as the former. According to Indian Autos Blog, Datsun will be introducing a new petrol engine and not source the existing 800cc petrol engine. The latter produces 54bhp of power and 72Nm of torque and is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
It’s an open secret that Datsun hasn’t been doing well at all with the GO, especially after the car’s miserable crash test results. Expectedly, the Redi-Go is being engineered to offer relatively better crash protection and overall safety.
The Redi-Go is expected to be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in February next year. When launched, it will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 as the second product from the Renault-Nissan alliance.
