Datsun has globally unveiled the production version of the redi-GO hatchback at an event in Delhi. It showcased the concept car at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and will launch it by the first week of June with bookings starting from May 1.
In terms of appearance, the redi-GO has stayed quite true to the concept car that was shown in 2014. The sporty design of the vehicle is a major departure from the conservative lines of the Go hatchback and Go+ mini MPV.
The fascia of the redi-GO is dominated by the large grille and blue Datsun logo while the side profile has power lines and a distinct ridge that extends all the way to the rear and connects with the sloping roofline. The ground clearance is 185mm.
At the back, we can see distinct boomerang-shaped tail lamps and a chrome strip on the edge of the bootlid. While the Kwid has gone down the pseudo-SUV route, the redi-GO has a taller stance and takes advantage of higher vertical room in the design.
The cabin of the redi-Go is very similar to what is being offered in the other Datsun models. It has been trimmed in a beige and grey combination and has features like music system with CD, AUX and USB input as well AC and power windows for the front passengers.
The redi-GO is underpinned by the same CMF-A platform found in the Renault Kwid and will be offered with the three-cylinder 800cc petrol mill. This engine in the Kwid produces 57bhp and 72Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed gearbox that sends power to the front wheels. We expect a similar output in this car. It is expected that the automaker will also offer the 1.0-litre engine with the AMT option for the redi-GO at a later date.
This is the third vehicle in the Japanese automaker’s budget brand after the Go hatchback and Go+ mini MPV.
