Datsun has launched the new 1.0-litre version of the Redi-Go hatchback in India at Rs 3.57 lakhs (ex-showroom all-India). The A-segment hatchback gets a bigger 1.0-litre petrol engine and is available in two trims – T(O) and S. We have driven the car and you can read all about it over here.
Appearance wise, this powerful variant of the Redi-Go gets a 1.0 insignia slapped on the boot lid. Apart from it, there are no telltale signs differentiating it from its 800cc brethren. It carries all the design elements of the tall-boy hatch including a meshed hexagonal grille, wedged headlamps, creased bumpers with faux skid plate, boomerang-shaped tail lights and a protruding tailgate. There are five exterior colours to choose from.
Step inside, and you can notice the spacious cabin, both at the front and back. Both the variants gets a piano black finish for the centre console, fabric seats, central locking, 2-DIN music system and power windows. However, safety features like daytime running lamps and driver airbags are exclusive to the more expensive S trim.
Under the tiny bonnet is the same 999cc, three-cylinder motor, producing 68bhp of power and 91Nm of torque, which does duty in the Renault Kwid 1.0. The motor is mated to a five-speed manual transmission for the time being, but we could expect Datsun to offer the Redi-Go 1.0-litre with an AMT a few months down the line.
The Datsun Redi-Go 1.0 enters the A-Segment which is dominated by the likes of Hyundai Eon 1.0, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Renault Kwid 1.0. You can click on the links below to check out the spec comparison between the Redigo 1.0-litre and its adversaries.
